977 STEERING CLUTCHES

977 STEERING CLUTCHES

The 977 Traxcavators actually began with the production of the #6 10A Traxcavator, built on the D6 9U crawler frame.  The dry type steering clutch packs were retained through the 20A model and the 53A's serial number 53A 1 thru 1906.  Beginning with the 53A series the inner driving drums and quantity of discs decreased to ten bimetallic and 10 steel discs, using the D7 sized 7M5001 inner driving drum instead of the D6 sized 7M5002.  Brake bands remained the same as did their lining kits.

Twelve (12) bimetallic friction discs and twelve (12) steel separator plates are required for each clutch pack. (Ten each for the 977 53A dry clutches) Unless severe damage has occurred, you often have to replace only the bimetallic friction discs. This keeps your costs down quite a bit. I would highly recommend that you check your brake bands at this time, unless you just enjoy pulling wrenches. All parts listed below are new replacement parts, non oem.

Brake Band relining kit $42.00 per clutch (a band is 3 sections, the price includes all rivets and linings for one complete brake band)
